Exit ‘Bagets’, Enter ‘Squad Goals’ this May 9

From the film outfit that gave the Filipino movie fans a highly successful two-part, youth-oriented film—‘Bagets’ by the unbeatable tandem of two of the country’s creative minds—the late master filmmaker Maryo J. delos Reyes and the late award-winning screenwriter Jake Tordesillas, comes another film titled ‘Squad Goals’ that centers on five young guys known as #FBois will open in cinemas nationwide on May 9.

The gang will compose of Julian Trono, Vitto Marquez, Andrew Muhlach, Dan Huschka, and Jack Reid as they portray college students who find camaraderie amidst a series of mishaps that could expel them from school. This dramedy flick is directed by multi-awarded Mark Meily.

The film attempts to present realities why young men struggled in their college years. According to researchers, the struggles of male college freshmen have not changed much through the years, but many of today’s young men, compared to those of the past, are less resilient with regard to the challenges. But through this movie starring Trono, Marquez, Muhlach, Huschka and Reid—it hopes to aid the male audiences to deal with their issues like—a  young man’s thirst for adventure, the need to belong while staying true to himself, the struggle to keep it all together in the face of academic stress, love and family matters, and the thrill of going through it all with real friends.

Trono is Benj, an Engineering student who is a secret dance guru called “Young D”.  He wears a mask in his dance videos on YouTube to keep his father from finding out about it.  He took up Engineering to be able to help out in their family’s failing business.

Marquez is Tom, an HRM student and a varsity team captain who happens to be a three-time MVP.  He is too hung up on his girlfriend. He mirrors himself to his father, a retired basketball player and is married to an actress.

Muhlach on the other hand, he is Nat, the class clown and best friend of Tom.  His father works as a driver, while his mother is into a networking business. His character is quick in coming up with pranks, but he’s ‘torpe’.

Huschka, a Filipino-German plays Hans, a shy-type music genius who keeps getting gigs as a DJ and because of such blinding opportunities his studies took a backseat.  He tries not to be too attached to his friends because the thought of leaving them behind would too hard when he and his mom migrate to Germany.

Reid takes on the character of Pads, a Mass Comm student who works part-time as a bartender; which makes him often exhausted in his class. Due to being poor in speaking Tagalog since he’s born and raised in Australia, sought a female tutor who seems to be the only one not affected by his charisma.
