Apart from Filipina beauty queens winning in beauty pageants, there are also many Filipinas who almost brought the title and crown, but fell short and ended up as runners-up, which viewers from other parts of the world found true; and one of those is the first runner-up finish of Katarina Sonja Rodriguez at the recently concluded Miss Intercontinental 2017, at the SUNRISE Garden Beach Resort in Hurghada, Egypt on January 25.
The 24-year-old model-athlete-beauty queen was a former second runner-up in Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 2 along with Jodilly Pendre; but in her recent beauty contest conquest—she placed behind Veronica Salas Vallejo of Mexico during the coronation night.
Fighting back her tears, she said, “Okay lang ito, okay? I miss all of you, I miss my country. It was a tough ride; it was a lot of work, a lot of hours.”
Rodriguez also won the MISS MEDIA POPULARITY as the one with the most press articles and awarded by Sunrise. She was also first runner-up in the Best National Costume category.
The Philippines almost won the Miss Intercontinental title in 2015, with Christi Lynn McGarry landed as first runner-up. While in 2014, Kris Janson placed second runner-up.
Prior to joining the contest, the Davaoeña was one of the MTV Philippines VJs and was under Viva Artists Agency. She is also an active member of the Red Whistle and the #SaveSexy campaign that promotes HIV/AIDS awareness; where she joined the said organization that the fashion photographer Niccolo Cosme is heading, after she graduated from De La Salle University with a degree in Business Management and Philosophy.
