In celebration of Light Rail Transit Authority’s (LRTA) 37th founding anniversary, it recently launched the LRTArt 2017 in July; with a theme: ‘LRT – Sasakyan Ko sa Magandang Kinabukasan’. It is the eighth year of the said nationwide painting competition since it began in 2009.
LRTArt is a testament of the wholly-owned government transport system to support and promote Filipino art and culture.
This year’s competition has two divisions—The Main Competition and the Junior Division, respectively.
As highlight of LRTArt 2017, a public exhibit of the shortlisted entries will be displayed along LRT2 Cubao Gateway Station for commuters to witness the brilliance of Filipino artistry. Also, the said initiative aims to democratize Philippine art by bringing it nearer to the people and providing a reflective pause for commuters as well.
Prizes at stake are—for the Main Competition, top 50 works (finalists) will receive five thousand pesos (Php5,000) each; while for the Junior category, the top 25 works (finalists) will be awarded with two thousand pesos (Php2,000) each.
Top three winners in the respective categories will take home—Php300,000; Php200,000 and Php100,000; Php150,000, Php100,000 and Php50,000.
